Join us for a special performance of an innovative and artistic program featuring professional orchestra and projection design. Under the direction and artistic vision of guest conductors, Dr. J.D. Frizzell and Dr. Jeffery Redding, the National Symphonic Chorus will premiere a brand new major work by J.D. Frizzell and Johnny del Toro. “You Are”, an empowering composition with poetry written by Gen Z poets Tamia Elliot and Ava Pardue, celebrates the uniqueness of each and every one of us. The second half features Mozart's timeless, REQUIEM, led by Jeffery Redding and National Masterwork Chorus & Orchestra.
JEFFERY REDDING, GUEST CONDUCTOR
Jeffery Redding, the 2019 GRAMMY Music Educator Award Recipient, is the newly announced Director of Choral Activities at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Dr. Redding has led his choirs in performances at national, regional, and state conventions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). His choirs have earned first-place awards at Heritage Festivals of Gold in California, Chicago, New York, and the Festival of Spirituals in Washington, D.C. While participating in the International Music Festival in Verona, Italy, his chorus from West Orange High School received the Gold Award for best choir, with Dr. Redding honored as top director.
Nationally, Dr. Redding is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician. He has conducted the ACDA National High School Honor Choir, the Central Division ACDA Honor Choir, the North Central Division ACDA Honor Choir, the Eastern Division ACDA Honor Choir, and All-State and Honor choirs in approximately forty states. He was the Artistic Director for Limerick Sings International Choral Festival in Limerick, Ireland, and conducted at the TAISM Festival of Choirs in Muscat, Oman. In 2019, he conducted the Honors Young Adults Choir at the Sydney Opera House and held the position of Artistic Director for Beethoven’s 250th Anniversary in Vienna, Austria.
Dr. Redding holds a Ph.D. in Choral Conducting/Music Education and a Master of Music Education, both from Florida State University, and a B.S. in Music Education from Florida A&M University. He is founder and Artistic Director of the Garden Community Choir, Voci del Cuore, and the Orlando Choral Society. He has served his profession in numerous capacities, including leadership roles with ACDA, NAfME, and the Florida Vocal Association. His Jeffery Redding Passion and Purpose Choral Series, published by Colla Voce Music, Inc., highlights new choral music by various composers.
J.D. FRIZZELL, GUEST CONDUCTOR/COMPOSER
J.D. Frizzell is the Director of Fine Arts and Director of Vocal Music at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, TN. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Choral Conducting from The University of Kentucky and holds a double Master’s in Music Theory/Composition and Conducting from The University of Southern Mississippi, where he also earned his bachelor’s degree in Music History and Literature. In 2024, Frizzell was named a national finalist for the GRAMMY Music Educator Award. He was also recognized as the 2011 Outstanding Young Music Educator by the Tennessee Music Educators Association and received the Dr. Clair E. Cox Award for Teaching Excellence in 2011 and 2023.
A leader in the contemporary a cappella movement, Dr. Frizzell is the co-founder and President of The A Cappella Education Association and the founder of the National A Cappella and Choral Convention. His high school a cappella group, OneVoice, is a SONY Recording Artist, winners of the Macy’s A Cappella Challenge judged by Pentatonix, and performers at The Emmys. Their music has been streamed, downloaded, and viewed over 120 million times. Dr. Frizzell has co-authored the books A Cappella Warm Ups for Pop and Jazz Choirs and Teaching Music Through Performance in Contemporary A Cappella.
As the Director of Fine Arts at Briarcrest, Dr. Frizzell leads a faculty of twelve full-time faculty-artists and oversees curriculum, instruction, and budgets for fine arts programs from K2-12th grade. He is active as a presenter, adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor and has served in multiple volunteer capacities with TNMEA, NATS, ACDA, and WTVMEA. Recognized for his philanthropic efforts, he was named one of “Memphis’ Finest” by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Dr. Frizzell lives in Memphis, TN, with his wife, Emily, and their sons, Henry and Elliott.
