THE WILDERNESS OF YOU

Experience a musical journey like no other as select choirs, under the esteemed guidance of guest conductor Dr. Kristina MacMullen, take center stage at Carnegie Hall for the world premiere of a captivating composition by acclaimed composer Andrea Ramsey. As the Mary Gibbs Jones Chair of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Baylor University, Dr. MacMullen's dedication to music education and her unwavering belief in the transformative power of choral music infuse every note with passion and purpose.

Accompanied by a professional orchestra and gifted soloists, "The Wilderness of You" will be scored for mixed (SATB chorus) with limited divisi, possible soli, piano, strings, and percussion. It will be approximately 25 minutes in duration and the difficulty level will be appropriate for advanced high school, collegiate, or community choral ensembles.

Composed by internally recognized composer, Andrea Ramsey, "The Wilderness of You" promises to be fresh, outside-the-box, inventive, and innovative while also rich in heart, melodic, and tonal in harmonic structure. The final score is scheduled to be delivered by December 1, 2024, ensuring ample time for preparation and rehearsal.

Join National Concerts in being one of the few organizations to bring to life an imaginative new original work by Andrea Ramsey. The Wilderness of You, calls us home to ourselves and holds us in awe of who we are. Through five movements for SATB chorus with piano, percussion, possible strings, and possible soli; Andrea Ramsey will set and adapt the naturalist and perspective- shifting poetry of Jarod K. Anderson (Field Guide to a Haunted Forest, Love Notes from the Hollow Tree, Leaf Litter) in an approximately twenty-five minute work that pulls us toward those things we most have in common: the inner workings and wonder of our human bodies.
